This is the universal truth, “Everybody hates editing”. Editing is not a tough job but we avoid it because it’s boring, time consuming and frustrating. Most people while editing just skim through the pages and correct the mistakes which they chance upon. It is all quite happenstance.
To make editing work simple, easy and less time consuming there are many software’s available in the market like Hemingway, ProWritingAid etc. Both of these tools will help you immensely in editing. They automatically detect and correct most of the mistakes and you don’t have to spend extra time and stress your mind on the frustrating work called “editing”.
There are several tools available that can make the most boring stuff ever written look interesting. Two names that immediately pop into mind are Hemingway and ProWritingAid. Let’s look at the two main players in the market.
The Better One!!!
But which software is the best suited to your needs? Both Hemingway and ProWritingAid are good and deciding the better one between the two is a tough task.
Hemingway – Hemingway is very uncomplicated and easy to use. You can erase the text inputted on the screen and replace it with whatever you have written on your own. You even have the extra option of writing a new text and having it analyzed. It addresses and provides a remedy for all the major issues that every student, writer or a professional comes across while writing.
ProWritingAid – Just like Hemingway, you can copy and paste the text which needs to be analyzed. You also have the option to import the text from the word document. But the main flaw is, as soon as you add 1000 words as a non-member, you will get an alert that you need to either sign up for membership or enter less words. ProWritingAid provides you with a really thorough report. It also checks for overused and repeated words, cliches and redundancies, grammatical mistakes, sentence length etc.
Although Hemingway isn’t nearly as good and thorough as ProWritingAid, it hits the most common areas of concern for writers. You also don’t need a membership to enter more than 1000 words. As mentioned earlier, ProWritingAid is extremely thorough, but it can be a little tough to work with at first and also kind of lures you into getting a membership.
Here is the bottom-line. If you want something simple which covers almost every aspect use Hemingway, and if you want something which examines your writing thoroughly through a microscope, use ProWritingAid.
