We all envy the guy with the latest gizmos and the money to spend on expensive softwares. Thankfully for those on the other side of the fence there are quite a few inexpensive ways to produce good quality podcasts. There are a few simple tricks and ways to make episodes that are thoroughly professional without investing in the ‘best and most advanced’ equipment in town.
Work on your podcast script and blog
Give your all during the scripting stages as that is where your podcast is born. Work on the content to make it unique and arrange your information in quick, digestible points. In a recent conference held in New York it was discussed why every blogger should have a podcast. It work the other way round too! Blogging about your podcasts can give you valuable backlinks and build a stronger presence.
Clear the air
To begin with, even the most expensive microphone or recording device cannot save an audio recording, if you don’t get the basics right. Hold the microphone at an optimal and constant distance, and use a pop filter. Choose the right microphone for the occasion and if you are the one doing all the talking opt for a unidirectional mike, and, use a bidirectional mike for podcast interviews.
Overdoing audio equalization can make your podcast sound synthetic and unnatural. Finally don’t record thinking you can fix things up during editing.
Add a transcript
Add a transcript of your podcast. It can help make your podcast content easily downloadable, and spread its wings across various social networking sites. It can also be a treasure mine of keywords.
Being easily searchable, sounding clear and uncluttered, and having content that is useful and well researched, are the best production values one can give a podcast.
